Are we sure this is due to lack of interest?

Or is it lack of urgency, because there is still time to pay and time to book later? I am fully intent on attending, I just have not paid yet.

There are more people in Gauteng Pretoria than in the rest of the provinces combined.

Surely this has to be the reason, although it is very far for the Cape People, as was the De Hoop Saamtrek for the Vaalies.

Sad story, but justified. It was a difficult decision, and accepted as such. Will input be requested for future events.

See also Notice Board

Dear All

It is not a matter of not wanting to do it, but rather a matter of spending a huge amount for an event only a handful are attending, but every member is essentially paying for it through his membership fees.

We rather thought of supporting, funding, or sponsoring smaller regional events, either member driven or events hosted by others that we do attend on a regular basis, eg 'Reach for a Dream', 'Lesotho Winter Trip', 'Battlefields' etc. This would bring more members into the benefit of enjoying their fees, without great expenses if hosted in their vicinity. Also members from far away can join these events if they wish so.

Another possibility is to start and market a yearly event which is always at the same venue and around the same dates. This way it can be diarised in advance and one can build properly on the previous short commings and improve such a Saamtrek over years to let it become a place of pilgrimage for Southern Africa.
This has been proven by the Bushtaxi Forum in Germany and owner Alexander Wohlfahrt, also author of the great book "Legend land Cruiser". They have now a yearly attendance of ±850 vehicles from all over Europe. It is a win win situation for the club, for exhibitors, for the venue and its surroundings.

Hi Guy, I believe that regional gatherings fall under each clubhouse. No reason why they should not go ahead instead or at different dates. :)

A real pity!
The last two Saamtrek's were the highlights of my membership years. While I agree that 14 members to date are way below expectation and justification, I also have to agree with Guy that perhaps another drive may have raised the numbers but I understand that much need to be done well in advance and thetefore accept the Cs' decision with great dissappointment. :(

Let me just make it clear. I'm not dissappointed with the C's for the decision they made but with the fact that there will not be a Saamtrrek this year. (I was the first to pay, nê! )

Regional then remains the only alternative - but very few members in our region :( , so Western Cape / Gauteng / KZN are all equal for me. 8O

Oh, you're referring to the Bushtaxi thing. ( Working on a smartphone after s day on a beach in Croatia limits peripherial vision drastically   )
Sounds like a very good concept and I would supprt it where ever it is .... but I can see a seriaas north/south debate coming ....

Adolf, I do not understand how the BushTaxi event differs from the Saamtrek. It's an annual gathering of Land Cruisers - Maybe you can explain?
