During a trip through southern Namibia earlier this year my wife and I met a researcher from Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Holger Kolberg. Over a couple of beers we discussed his role within the department and the research he is busy with. This is when he told us about Vultures Namibia.

Vultures Namibia is a group of volunteers involved in the ringing and monitoring of Lappet-faced and other Vultures in the Namib-Naukluft Park, Namib Rand Nature Reserve (bordering the Namib-Naukluft Park) and commercial farms in the area. The group owes its existence to Peter and Marilyn Bridgeford, who started the ringing and monitoring of Lappet-faced Vultures in the Namib-Naukluft Park as early as 1991. This area has been determined as the main breeding area of Lappet-Faced Vultures in Namibia.
